Antonio Donghi was an Italian painter born on 16 March 1897 in Rome, Italy. Antonio enrolled at the Instituto di Belle Arti aged eleven, graduating in 1916. After his studies, he served in the military during the First World War. When the war ended, Donghi chose to create art in the methods of traditional figure paintings, winning acclaim from critics and viewers alike.

As one of the leading neoclassical Italian painters, Antonio exhibited at the Rome Biennale in 1923 alongside Carlo Socrate. The following year, Donghi participated in an exhibition with Mario Tozzi and Felice Casorati at the Galleria Pesaro. In the years that followed, Donghi continued exhibiting worldwide in countries such as Germany, Italy, France, Brazil, and the United States of America.

Antonio was widely honored and won several awards for his art, including First Honorable Mention at the Carnegie Institute International Exhibition in Pittsburgh. Donghi’s work quickly fell out of favor with critics shortly after, when critics considered his work to be outdated and old-fashioned. He died on 16 July 1963 in Rome. Donghi’s works are in prestigious collections and galleries, such as the Ca’ Pesaro International Gallery of Modern art.
